Newborn and family sessions are welcomed into The Dewdrop Project Studio in Bothell, Washington, a warm, light-filled, all-white space thoughtfully created for life's tiniest, most precious moments.

Wraps, blankets and props are all here waiting. Arrive with your baby and nothing else to think about.

A blanket knitted by grandma, a first teddy, a favourite toy. If something holds meaning for your family, bring it, those are often the photographs you treasure most.

When is the best time for a newborn session?
The first two weeks are ideal, while babies are still sleepy and curl up naturally. Most families book during pregnancy, any time after the twenty week scan, and I hold a window around the due date rather than a fixed date, so there is nothing to reschedule when your baby decides to arrive early or late.
What if my baby is already older than that?
Then we do something different and just as lovely. Older babies are awake, curious and full of expression, and around eight to ten months, when they can sit but are not yet crawling away, is a wonderful age. Milestone sessions work right through the toddler years too.
When should I book a maternity session?
Somewhere between twenty eight and thirty four weeks tends to be the sweet spot, when your bump is beautifully round but you are still comfortable moving around. If you are planning both maternity and newborn photographs, it is worth booking them together.
What actually happens during a session?
Sessions run two to three hours, so there is no schedule to keep to. We pause for feeding, changing and cuddles as often as needed, and nothing is rushed. My style is more candid than posed, so much of the time is simply letting your little one be themselves while I photograph what unfolds.
What should we wear?
For family sessions I suggest soft neutrals, and avoiding large logos or bold patterns so the focus stays on your faces rather than your clothes. You will not be left guessing though, we have a personal chat before every session to talk through outfits together.
Can we bring something of our own?
Please do. A blanket knitted by grandma, a first teddy, a favourite toy, anything that means something to your family is more than welcome. Those small personal details often become the photographs you treasure most, long after the outfits are outgrown.
Can siblings and parents be in the photos?
Yes, and I would encourage it. Newborn sessions naturally include parents and older siblings, and family sessions are built entirely around everyone being in frame together. Parents often tell me afterwards that the photographs of them holding their baby are the ones they treasure most.
What if my baby cries the whole time?
It happens in almost every session, and it is completely fine. Unsettled babies are normal and I have never had a session that did not produce beautiful photographs. There is no need to feel apologetic or stressed, we simply pause until everyone is happy again.
Do you photograph cake smashes and first birthdays?
I do, and they are some of the most fun sessions in the studio. We usually begin with a few calm family photographs while everyone is still clean, then bring out the cake and let the mess happen.
How long until we see the photographs?
Your gallery of 20 edited images arrives within two weeks, delivered privately online to view, download and share. I usually send a small preview sooner, because waiting is hard.
Do you travel, or are sessions studio only?
Newborn sessions are always held at the Bothell studio, where the light, warmth and everything we need are already set up, which matters most with very new babies. For outdoor family sessions and events I am happy to travel, so just mention what you have in mind when you get in touch.
Do we get printed photographs?
Yes. Three printed photographs of your choosing are included with every session, alongside your digital gallery. Framing can also be ordered directly through the studio if you would like something ready to hang.
